Lisa Fallon appointment confirmed as Éamonn Fitzmaurice unveils Galway backroom team
ÉAMONN FITZMAURICE HAS finalised his backroom team for the Galway footballers, with Lisa Fallon included as a coach.
The news comes after a meeting of the Galway County Committee on Monday night.
The experienced soccer mentor and analyst was linked with the position earlier this month following a report by the Irish Examiner. Fallon previously worked with Jim Gavin’s Dublin footballers alongside an extensive CV in both men’s and women’s soccer.
She holds Uefa’s highest soccer coaching qualification, the Pro Licence, and has worked as head coach to the Galway United men’s football team and as first-team coach to the Cork City men’s footballers.
The Galway coaching unit also includes Kevin Johnson, who has stepped away from his role as Galway U20 manager to link up with Fitzmaurice, and is joined by Ballincollig and Ireland’s senior men’s basketball assistant coach Ciarán O’Sullivan.
Former Galway footballers Gareth Bradshaw and Gary O’Donnell will also feature, while Dave Morris will remain as a coach having previously worked under Pádraic Joyce.
A 2014 All-Ireland-winning boss with his native Kerry, Fitzmaurice was announced as Joyce’s successor on a three-year term in September. The 49-year-old school principal spent six years in charge of Kerry before departing in 2018.
Meanwhile, Donal Ó Fátharta has been appointed as the Galway U20 football manager on a two-year term. His backroom team will feature Kieran Fitzgerald, Cormac Bane, Mike Comer and Brian O’Donoghue.
